Salt (sodium chloride) is composed of 40% sodium (Na) and 60% chloride (CI). It is essential to the metabolism and the balance of our bodies. Salt in particular, allows our muscles to contract by transmitting the nervous pulses and contributes to good heart function. It also intervenes in the regulation of our blood pressure and it helps in digestion.
A daily quantity of 5-6 g of salt is sufficient to cover all of our recommended daily requirement. Salt added to cooking or during our meal only represents 10% - 20% of the salt that we eat every day.
